Irreverent Warriors Chattanooga Silkies Hike

The mission of Irreverent Warriors is to bring Veterans together using humor and camaraderie to improve mental health and prevent Veteran suicide. Our vision as Irreverent Warriors is to be the force that unites the Veteran community and drives a healthy culture within its members. We do this through creative engagements, events and strong Veteran-based support networking.

One way we do this is to gather in cities around the world and hike wearing short silkie PT shorts, boots and packs. Combat and non-combat Veterans alike, enjoy the camaraderie created during shared misery. The laughter and sense of purpose remind us that the brother/sisterhood and solidarity we once had in the military will never die and we’ll always be there for each other. The connections and bonds made at these events allows the Veterans to create their own support network solving the most crucial issue contributing to Veteran suicide: isolation.

The 2021 IW Silkies Hike will take place on July 10. Registration will start at 0800, hike step off at 0930 and hike will end at approximately 1700. We are planning to hike approx. 10 miles through downtown Chattanooga. Our hike pace is approx. 2-3 mph with multiple stops at parks, bars and other landmarks. We will have some breakfast sandwiches and coffee available during registration, provide lunch to all hikers and volunteers, while providing snacks, water and Gatorade/Powerade during each stop.

If you would like more information about sponsoring, volunteering, setting up a booth or to join us on the hike, you can contact our lead coordinator, Bobbi Taylor, via email at chattanooga@irreverentwarriors.com or on FB at IW – Chattanooga. To see the complete list of silkies hikes please visit the Irreverent Warriors website at www.irreverentwarriors.com and select Events. Please note that only active duty Military and Veterans are allowed to hike. We welcome anyone, civilian and Veterans, to help out as volunteers.
