Guest Speaker: Judge Curtis Collier

Judge Curtis Collier is an Article III federal judge on senior status for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. He joined the court in 1995 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Judge Collier was the Chief Judge of the Court until October 8, 2012.  He assumed senior status on October 31, 2014.

Judge Collier was born in Marianna, Arkansas, and graduated from Tennessee State University with his bachelor's degree in 1971. He received his law degree from Duke University School of Law in 1974.

Collier began his legal career in the United States Air Force from 1974 to 1979. While in the Air Force, he was an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate in The Judge Advocate General's Corps with the rank of Captain.

Judge Collier was an Assistant United States Attorney of the Eastern District of Louisiana from 1979 to 1987 and held the same office in the Eastern District of Tennessee from 1987 to 1995.

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Jim Sasser, Collier was nominated to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee by President Bill Clinton on February 13, 1995, to a new seat created by 104 Stat. 5089, which was approved by Congress. Collier was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 8, 1995, on a voice vote.
